Indulge in the comforting flavors of Milcao, a traditional Chilean potato and cheese delight. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering, these golden cakes are crispy on the outside and cheesy within.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups raw potatoes
- 1 cup cooked potatoes
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup cheese
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the grated raw potatoes with the mashed cooked potatoes.
- 2
Add the wheat flour, salt, and baking powder to the potato mixture. Mix well until a dough forms.
- 3
If using cheese, fold it into the dough until evenly distributed.
- 4
Divide the dough into small balls and flatten each ball into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.
- 5
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry each disc for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- 6
Remove the Milcao from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
- 7
Serve warm, optionally with a side of pebre or avocado.
