Savor the crispy, golden Medu Vada, a beloved South Indian snack made from urad dal, spiced with green chilies and ginger. Perfect for a cozy evening or as a delightful appetizer at your next gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
- 1/2 cup onion
- 2 green chilies Ingredient 3
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Salt to taste salt
- Oil for frying vegetable oil
Method
- 1
Drain the soaked urad dal and grind it into a smooth batter, adding a little water if necessary.
- 2
Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl and add chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- 4
Wet your hands and take a small portion of the batter. Shape it into a donut (ring) and carefully drop it into the hot oil.
- 5
Fry the vadas until they are golden brown on both sides, turning them occasionally for even cooking.
- 6
Remove the vadas and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- 7
Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
