Indulge in the heartwarming flavors of Maultaschen, a traditional German dish filled with savory ground meat and fresh spinach, all wrapped in tender pasta. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 200 g ground meat (pork or beef)
- 100 g spinach
- 1 onion Ingredient 6
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp nutmeg
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the flour, 1 egg, and salt together. Gradually add water until a smooth dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes and then let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 2
In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent. Add the ground meat, spinach, and nutmeg. Cook until the meat is browned. Allow the filling to cool.
- 3
Roll out the dough on a floured surface until thin. Cut into squares (about 10x10 cm).
- 4
Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each square. Beat the remaining eggs and brush the edges of the dough with the egg wash. Fold the dough over to form a pocket and seal tightly.
- 5
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently add the Maultaschen and cook for about 10-15 minutes until they float to the top.
- 6
Remove the Maultaschen with a slotted spoon and serve hot with melted butter or in broth.
