Indulge in the rich flavors of Matazeez, a traditional Middle Eastern dish featuring tender lamb or beef simmered with aromatic spices and served with a delightful dough. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams lamb or beef, cubed
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
Method
- 1
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and add the chopped onion. Sauté until translucent.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and cubed lamb or beef to the pot. Cook until the meat is browned on all sides.
- 3
Stir in the ground cumin and salt, then add the water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 30 minutes.
- 4
While the meat is cooking, prepare the dough. In a bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water until a soft dough forms.
- 5
Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into small circles or squares.
- 6
After 30 minutes, add the dough pieces to the pot with the meat and broth. Cover and cook for an additional 20 minutes or until the dough is cooked through.
- 7
Serve the Matazeez hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
