Savor the rich flavors of Martabak, a beloved Indonesian street food featuring flaky pastry stuffed with spiced ground beef and fresh scallions. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun weekend gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 300 grams ground beef
- 2 pieces eggs
- 1 cup chopped scallions
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- oil as needed vegetable oil
Method
- 1
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and melted butter. Gradually add warm water while kneading until you form a smooth dough.
- 2
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 3
In a frying pan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped scallions, soy sauce, and eggs, stirring until well combined. Set aside.
- 4
Divide the rested dough into small balls. Roll each ball out into thin circles on a floured surface.
- 5
Place a generous amount of the beef filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges to seal and form a square or rectangular shape.
- 6
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry each martabak until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 7
Remove the martabak from the pan and drain on paper towels. Cut into pieces and serve hot with a side of chili sauce.
