Savor the rich flavors of Afghan cuisine with Mantu, delightful dumplings filled with spiced ground beef and onions, topped with creamy yogurt and a hint of chili. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams ground beef
- 1 large onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 package wonton wrappers
- 2 cups yogurt
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh parsley, ground cumin, and salt. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well incorporated.
- 2
Take a wonton wrapper and place about one tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center.
- 3
Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it over to create a triangle, and press the edges to seal. You can also fold the two corners together to form a tortellini shape if desired.
- 4
Repeat the process until all the filling is used. Place the filled dumplings on a floured surface to prevent sticking.
- 5
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully add the dumplings and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until they float to the top and are cooked through.
- 6
While the dumplings are cooking, prepare a simple sauce by mixing yogurt with red chili powder and a pinch of salt.
- 7
Once the mantu are cooked, remove them from the pot and let them drain. Serve hot drizzled with the yogurt sauce.
