Indulge in the creamy sweetness of Manjar, a delightful South American treat made with sweetened condensed milk and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for a cozy dessert after dinner or a festive gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
Method
- 1
In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and sugar if using. Stir well to mix the ingredients.
- 2
Place the saucepan over medium heat and continue to stir constantly to prevent burning.
- 3
After about 10 minutes of cooking, add the baking soda and vanilla extract, stirring continuously. The mixture should begin to thicken.
- 4
Continue to cook for about 30-40 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture turns a deep caramel color and reaches a thick, spreadable consistency.
- 5
Once the manjar reaches the desired thickness, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 6
Transfer the manjar to a glass jar or container and let it cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator.
- 7
Serve the manjar as a filling for pastries, cakes, or simply enjoy it as a spread on bread.
