Savor the warmth of Middle Eastern flavors with homemade Manakish, a delightful flatbread topped with aromatic za’atar and olive oil. Perfect for a cozy brunch or a flavorful snack any time of day.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup za’atar spice mix
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- optional cheese (optional)
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- 2
Gradually add the warm water and 3 tablespoons of olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 4
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Roll the dough into 4 equal-sized circles on a floured surface.
- 5
In a small bowl, mix the za’atar spice mix with 1/4 cup of olive oil to form a paste. Spread the paste evenly over each dough circle.
- 6
If using cheese, sprinkle it over the za’atar topping. Place the manakish on a baking sheet.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- 8
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
