Delight in the delicate beauty of French macarons, where almond flour meets airy meringue, creating a sweet canvas for your favorite fillings. Perfect for afternoon tea or special celebrations, these colorful treats are sure to impress.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring optional gel food coloring
- Filling of choice as needed buttercream or ganache
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 2
In a bowl, sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar until well combined.
- 3
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add granulated sugar while continuing to whisk until stiff peaks form.
- 4
Gently fold in the almond flour mixture into the egg whites in three additions, being careful not to deflate the meringue. If desired, add food coloring during this step.
- 5
Transfer the mixture to a piping bag and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each.
- 6
Let the piped macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to form a skin on top.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the shells have risen and have a shiny exterior.
- 8
Allow the macarons to cool completely before carefully removing them from the parchment. Fill with your choice of filling and sandwich together.
