Experience the unique flavors of traditional Scandinavian cuisine with Lutfisk, a delicately reconstituted cod served with a rich white sauce. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy winter dinner.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams dried cod
- 100 grams lye (sodium hydroxide)
- 1 liter water
- 50 grams butter
- 1 cup white sauce
- to taste g salt
- to taste g pepper
Method
- 1
Soak the dried cod in cold water for 2-3 days, changing the water daily to rehydrate the fish.
- 2
Prepare the lye solution by carefully mixing the lye with 1 liter of water in a well-ventilated area. Be cautious and wear gloves.
- 3
Once the cod is soaked and rehydrated, place it in the lye solution for about 8 hours.
- 4
After lye treatment, rinse the cod thoroughly under cold running water to remove any lye residue.
- 5
Boil the rinsed cod in salted water for about 20-30 minutes until it becomes tender and flaky.
- 6
Serve the lutfisk drizzled with melted butter and accompanied by white sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
