Experience the warmth of Swedish tradition with Lussekatt, a saffron-infused sweet bun adorned with raisins. Perfect for cozy winter evenings or festive gatherings, this treat will fill your home with delightful aromas.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g butter
- 250 ml milk
- 100 g sugar
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1 tsp ground saffron
- 1 egg egg
- 12 pieces raisins
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the dry yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, saffron, and the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat the oven to 225°C (437°F). After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- 6
Shape each piece into a ‘S’ shape, placing raisins in the curved ends. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Beat the egg and brush it over the shaped Lussekatt. Let them rise for an additional 15 minutes.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
