Indulge in the creamy delight of Leche Nevada, a traditional Mexican dessert made with fluffy meringue and a sweet milk base. Perfect for a festive gathering or a cozy weeknight treat, this dish is sure to impress!
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 cup egg whites
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup cinnamon powder
Method
- 1
In a medium saucepan, combine milk and sugar over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- 2
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to form a slurry.
- 3
Once the milk begins to simmer, add the cornstarch slurry while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
- 4
Continue to cook for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- 5
In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
- 6
Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the thickened milk mixture until combined. Be careful not to deflate the egg whites.
- 7
Spoon the mixture into serving dishes and let cool for a few minutes before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.
- 8
Serve chilled and dust with cinnamon powder before serving.
