Experience the joy of homemade lavash, a soft and versatile flatbread perfect for wrapping your favorite fillings or serving alongside dips. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup extra flour
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat a baking stone or a heavy baking sheet in the oven at 500°F (260°C).
- 6
Divide the risen dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin oval shape, approximately 1/8 inch thick.
- 7
Carefully transfer the rolled lavash onto the preheated baking stone. Bake for about 2-3 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
- 8
Remove from the oven and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
