Indulge in the sweet, flaky layers of Kunafa, a beloved Middle Eastern dessert made with kataifi pastry, creamy ricotta, and a drizzle of fragrant sugar syrup. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy evening treat.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams kataifi pastry
- 200 grams unsalted butter
- 400 grams ricotta cheese
- 100 grams sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 300 ml sugar syrup
- 50 grams pistachios
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- 2
In a large bowl, mix the kataifi pastry with melted butter until evenly coated.
- 3
In another bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
- 4
In a greased baking dish, layer half of the buttered kataifi pastry on the bottom, pressing down to form an even base.
- 5
Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the kataifi layer, then top with the remaining kataifi pastry.
- 6
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- 7
Once baked, remove from the oven and immediately pour the sugar syrup over the hot kunafa evenly.
- 8
Let it sit for a few minutes, then garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.
