Savor the rich flavors of Kulebyaka, a traditional Russian salmon pie wrapped in flaky puff pastry, with layers of tender rice and fragrant dill. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams puff pastry
- 300 grams salmon fillets
- 200 grams rice
- 1 medium onion
- 2 tablespoons dill
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg for egg wash
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- 2
Cook the rice according to package instructions, then let it cool.
- 3
In a frying pan, sauté the chopped onion until golden brown.
- 4
In a large bowl, combine the cooked rice, sautéed onions, chopped dill, salt, and pepper.
- 5
Roll out the puff pastry and place half of it on a baking sheet. Layer the rice mixture, followed by the salmon fillets, and then the remaining rice mixture on top.
- 6
Cover with the second half of the puff pastry, sealing the edges well. Cut a few slits on top for steam to escape.
- 7
Brush the top with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
