Experience the warm embrace of Kubaneh, a traditional Yemenite bread infused with rich butter and topped with crunchy sesame seeds. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special brunch gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt together until well combined.
- 2
Slowly add the warm water to the flour mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Flatten each ball slightly and brush with melted butter.
- 6
Layer the dough balls in a greased pot, sprinkling sesame seeds between each layer, and cover the pot with a lid.
- 7
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°F (95°C) overnight, or for at least 12 hours, until golden brown and fluffy.
- 8
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm, pulling apart to enjoy the soft bread.
