Indulge in the delightful taste of Krapfen, fluffy German doughnuts filled with sweet apricot jam and dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect for a cozy brunch or a festive treat that brings joy to any gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 ml milk
- 50 g butter
- 75 g sugar
- 7 g instant yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 1 pinch salt
- 250 g apricot jam
- oil for frying vegetable oil
- powdered sugar to taste powdered sugar
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and 25g of sugar. Stir in the yeast and let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Add the remaining sugar, eggs, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Knead until you have a smooth and elastic dough, about 5-10 minutes.
- 3
Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 4
Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1 cm thick. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
- 5
Place a spoonful of apricot jam in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and seal the edges, ensuring no jam escapes.
- 6
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 180°C (350°F). Fry the Krapfen in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes each side.
- 7
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
- 8
Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Krapfen!
