Savor the vibrant flavors of Egypt with Koshari, a hearty blend of lentils, rice, and macaroni topped with caramelized onions and a zesty tomato sauce. Ideal for a comforting weeknight dinner or a festive gathering.

- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup rice
- 1 cup macaroni
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon cumin

Method

Rinse the lentils and cook them in a pot with 3 cups of water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and set aside.

In a separate pot, cook the rice according to package instructions. Set aside once done.

Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a pan, heat some oil over medium heat, and sauté the chopped onion until golden brown. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

Pour in the tomato sauce, cumin, and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.

In a large serving dish, layer the rice, followed by lentils, macaroni, and top it off with the tomato sauce mixture.
