Experience the rich flavors of Bengali cuisine with Kosha Mangsho, a slow-cooked goat curry infused with spices and yogurt. Ideal for a cozy family dinner or festive gatherings, this dish warms the heart and soul.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg goat meat
- 2 tablespoons mustard oil
- 2 large onions
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 green chilies
- 1 bunch fresh cilantro
Method
- 1
Heat mustard oil in a heavy-bottomed pot. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- 2
Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another couple of minutes until fragrant.
- 3
Add goat meat pieces to the pot. Cook on medium-high heat until the meat is browned on all sides.
- 4
Mix in red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- 5
Lower the heat, add yogurt and slit green chilies, and mix well. Cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Once the meat is tender, check for seasoning and adjust if necessary. If the sauce is too thin, cook uncovered until it thickens to your liking.
- 7
Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving. Serve hot with rice or naan.
