Indulge in the sweet, flaky layers of Konafa, a Middle Eastern dessert that combines crispy pastry with creamy ricotta and a hint of rose water. Perfect for special occasions or a delightful end to a weeknight meal.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams konafa dough
- 200 grams unsalted butter
- 300 grams sugar
- 200 ml water
- 1 teaspoon rose water
- 250 grams ricotta cheese
- 50 grams pistachios
Method
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- 2
In a bowl, mix the konafa dough with melted butter until well coated.
- 3
In a greased baking dish, layer half of the konafa mixture evenly at the bottom.
- 4
Spread the ricotta cheese on top of the first layer of konafa, then add the remaining konafa mixture on top.
- 5
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 6
While baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar and water together for about 10 minutes.
- 7
Remove the konafa from the oven and pour the syrup over it while hot, allowing it to soak.
- 8
Garnish with chopped pistachios and drizzle with rose water before serving.
