Savor the delightful taste of Koláče, a traditional Eastern European pastry filled with sweet fruit and a soft, buttery dough. Perfect for a cozy brunch or as a charming dessert at your next gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 200 ml milk
- 75 g butter
- 70 g granulated sugar
- 7 g dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 300 g fruit filling
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the melted butter and eggs, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 4
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness.
- 5
Cut the dough into circles using a round cutter. Place a spoonful of fruit filling in the center of each circle. Fold the edges over to create a pocket, pinching to seal.
- 6
Arrange the Koláče on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
