Indulge in the warm, fluffy goodness of Khameer, a traditional Middle Eastern bread infused with olive oil and topped with crunchy sesame seeds. Perfect for sharing at family gatherings or enjoying with your favorite dips.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds

Method

  1. 1

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.

  4. 4

Mix until the dough begins to form. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

  5. 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape each into a flat round disc.

  7. 7

Place the discs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkle sesame seeds on top, and bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Khameer warm or at room temperature.
