Indulge in the comforting flavors of Kasnocken, a delightful Austrian dish of soft dumplings tossed in melted cheese and butter. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a hearty gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 200 ml water
- 200 g grated cheese (Emmental or similar)
- 50 g butter
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- optional chives or parsley (for garnish)
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the flour and a pinch of salt together.
- 2
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add them to the flour mixture.
- 3
Gradually add the water, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
- 4
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Use a spoon or spaetzle maker to drop small portions of the batter into the boiling water.
- 5
Once the dumplings rise to the surface, they are cooked. Remove them with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- 6
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the cooked dumplings. Sauté lightly until golden brown.
- 7
Add the grated cheese to the skillet and stir gently until the cheese is melted and the dumplings are evenly coated.
- 8
Serve hot, garnished with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
