Savor the heartwarming flavors of Kapustnyak, a traditional Eastern European soup that combines tender pork ribs and fresh cabbage in a savory broth. Perfect for cozy weeknight dinners or gatherings with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams fresh cabbage
- 300 grams pork ribs
- 1 large onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Method
- 1
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and pork ribs to the pot, browning the meat on all sides.
- 3
Once the meat is browned, add the shredded cabbage to the pot, stirring to combine.
- 4
Pour in the water (or broth) and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 70 minutes, or until the pork is tender.
- 5
Season the soup with salt and black pepper to taste, stirring well.
- 6
You can add more water if the soup is too thick; simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- 7
Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or sour cream.
