Indulge in Kalb el Louz, a fragrant Middle Eastern semolina cake infused with rose water and topped with crunchy almonds. Perfect for a sweet treat during afternoon tea or a festive gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup blanched almonds
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 1 cup syrup

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix the semolina, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

  3. 3

Add the melted butter and milk to the dry ingredients, and stir until well combined.

  4. 4

Incorporate the rose water for additional flavor.

  5. 5

Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.

  6. 6

Garnish with blanched almonds on top and bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. 7

Once baked, let it cool slightly before cutting into diamond or square shapes.

  8. 8

If desired, drizzle with syrup before serving for added sweetness.
