Indulge in the fluffy delight of Kaiserschmarrn, a classic Austrian dessert featuring caramelized pancake pieces dusted with powdered sugar and served with warm applesauce. Perfect for a cozy weekend brunch or a sweet treat any day.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup applesauce or fruit compote
Method
- 1
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- 2
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- 3
Pour the batter into the skillet and let it cook undisturbed for about 5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown.
- 4
Using two forks, carefully flip the pancake, breaking it into quarters if necessary. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is golden brown.
- 5
Once cooked, tear the pancake into bite-sized pieces with the forks and mix them in the skillet for an even cook.
- 6
Transfer the Kaiserschmarrn to a serving plate, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with applesauce or fruit compote.
