Indulge in the rich, buttery goodness of Kahk, a traditional Middle Eastern cookie infused with warm cinnamon and crunchy nuts. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup ghee or unsalted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the melted ghee or butter with powdered sugar until smooth.
- 2
Add the warm milk, yeast (if using), ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract to the mixture. Stir well.
- 3
Gradually add the sifted flour to the mixture, kneading until a soft dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add more flour little by little.
- 4
Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- 5
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). If using nuts, flatten each ball and place a teaspoon of chopped nuts in the center before sealing.
- 6
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Arrange the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before sprinkling with powdered sugar.
- 8
Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Kahk!
