Indulge in the rich, creamy goodness of Kaaskroket, a delightful Dutch cheese croquette filled with melted Gouda or Edam. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or as a crowd-pleasing appetizer at your next gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 200 grams Dutch cheese (e.g., Gouda or Edam)
- 80 grams butter
- 80 grams all-purpose flour
- 300 ml milk
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- oil as needed vegetable oil
Method
- 1
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir constantly for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
- 2
Gradually pour in the milk, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth.
- 3
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the grated cheese and nutmeg until the cheese has melted completely.
- 4
Let the cheese mixture cool, then shape it into small croquettes or logs.
- 5
Dip each croquette into beaten eggs and then roll in breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
- 6
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the croquettes until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 7
Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels before serving.
- 8
Enjoy your Kaaskroket hot, served with a side of mustard or your favorite dipping sauce.
