Indulge in the warm, aromatic flavors of Ka'ak, a Middle Eastern bread infused with cardamom and topped with sesame seeds. Perfect for a cozy gathering or as a delightful snack any time of day.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp ground cardamom

Method

  1. 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. If using, add the ground cardamom.

  3. 3

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.

  4. 4

Mix the ingredients until they form a soft dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.

  5. 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Punch down the dough and shape it into rings or pretzel shapes.

  7. 7

Place the shaped Ka'ak on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

  8. 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
