Savor the rich, crispy goodness of Jumări, a traditional Romanian dish made from succulent pork belly, garlic, and spices. Perfect for a hearty weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg pork belly
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp black peppercorns
  • 1 leaf bay leaf

Method

  1. 1

In a large pot, combine the pork belly cubes, salt, crushed garlic, and water. If using, add black peppercorns and bay leaf.

  2. 2

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer for about 40 minutes, until the pork is tender.

  3. 3

After simmering, drain off the excess liquid, leaving just a bit for frying.

  4. 4

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the pork. Cook, stirring frequently, until the fat renders and the pork turns crispy and golden brown, approximately 15-20 minutes.

  5. 5

Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.

  6. 6

Serve warm, traditionally with polenta or bread, and enjoy your authentic Romanian Jumări!
