Indulge in the sweet, crispy delight of Jilapi, a traditional Indian treat made with a hint of cardamom and sugar. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy afternoon snack with tea.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
Method
- 1
In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, yeast, salt, and sugar together.
- 2
Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and knead it into a smooth, elastic dough.
- 3
Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- 4
In a saucepan, prepare the sugar syrup by boiling 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water and adding cardamom powder. Let it simmer until slightly thickened.
- 5
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, pipe the rested dough into spiral shapes, frying until golden brown on both sides.
- 6
Remove the jilapi from the oil and immediately dip them in the warm sugar syrup for a few seconds.
- 7
Drain excess syrup and serve hot or warm as a festive treat.
