Experience the heartwarming flavors of Jareesh, a traditional Middle Eastern dish made with tender chicken, cracked wheat, and aromatic spices. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner that brings family together.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup jareesh wheat (cracked wheat)
  • 500 grams chicken (or lamb)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (or butter)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. 1

In a large pot, combine the soaked jareesh wheat, chicken (or lamb), and water.

  2. 2

Add the chopped onion, salt, and black pepper to the pot and bring to a boil over medium heat.

  3. 3

Once boiling, reduce the heat and cover the pot. Let it simmer for about 60 minutes or until the meat is tender.

  4. 4

Using a wooden spoon or an immersion blender, stir the mixture until the wheat is broken down and the consistency is creamy.

  5. 5

Add ghee (or butter) and ground cinnamon, mixing well to combine. Let it simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

  6. 6

Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

  7. 7

Serve hot, garnished with additional ghee if desired, and enjoy your Jareesh!
