- 1 cup mustard paste
- 2 tablespoons green chili
- 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon mustard oil
- 1 cup water

First, marinate the Ilish fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

In a bowl, mix the mustard paste, slit green chilies, and a bit of salt. This will be the marinade for the fish.

Coat the marinated fish pieces thoroughly with the mustard mixture.

Place the coated fish pieces in a steaming dish or a banana leaf, and drizzle with mustard oil.

In a pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Place the steaming dish on top, cover it, and steam for about 25 minutes on medium heat.
