Indulge in the sweet, warm embrace of Hotteok, a delightful Korean street food treat filled with brown sugar, walnuts, and a hint of cinnamon. Perfect for cozy evenings or a unique brunch experience!
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or peanuts
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Method
- 1
In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise for 1 hour.
- 4
While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, chopped nuts, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- 5
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a circle.
- 6
Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle and fold the edges over to seal. Shape into a ball.
- 7
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook each Hotteok for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- 8
Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Hotteok!
