Indulge in the delicate flavors of Har Gow, traditional Cantonese shrimp dumplings wrapped in a translucent dough. Perfect for a cozy dim sum brunch or a festive gathering, these bite-sized delights will impress your guests.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 200 g shrimp
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 150 g wheat starch
- 50 g tapioca starch
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
Method
- 1
In a bowl, mix the shrimp with cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of salt. Set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.
- 2
In a separate bowl, combine wheat starch, tapioca starch, and salt. Gradually add boiling water while stirring until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough until smooth, then cover it with a damp cloth to keep it warm.
- 4
Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
- 5
Place a spoonful of the shrimp filling in the center of each dough circle, fold over, and pinch the edges to seal tightly.
- 6
Steam the dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper for about 10 minutes, or until the shrimp is cooked through.
- 7
Serve hot with soy sauce or chili sauce for dipping.
