Savor the rich flavors of Hanith, a traditional Middle Eastern lamb dish infused with aromatic spices and served over fluffy basmati rice. Ideal for a cozy family dinner or a festive gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg lamb, cut into chunks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups basmati rice
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the lamb chunks with olive oil, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and salt. Mix well to coat the meat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
- 2
In a large pot, add the marinated lamb and pour in the water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low heat and cover. Let it simmer for about 90 minutes or until the lamb is tender.
- 3
Once the lamb is cooked, remove it from the pot and set aside. Strain the broth and reserve it for cooking the rice.
- 4
In the same pot, add the strained broth back and bring it to a boil. Add the soaked basmati rice and cook according to package instructions until the rice is fluffy and fully absorbed the liquid.
- 5
Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork. Serve the rice on a large platter, topped with the tender lamb pieces.
- 6
Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro if desired, and serve hot.
