Experience the heartwarming flavors of Hamin, a traditional Jewish slow-cooked stew featuring tender beef brisket, hearty chickpeas, and fragrant spices. Ideal for Shabbat dinners or cozy gatherings with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups dried chickpeas
- 1 kg beef brisket
- 4 medium potatoes
- 2 medium onions
- 5 cloves garlic
- 2 tablespoons barley
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
- 2
In a large pot, combine the soaked chickpeas, beef brisket chunks, potatoes, chopped onions, garlic, and barley.
- 3
Add cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the pot, mixing well to combine all ingredients.
- 4
Cover everything with water, ensuring there is enough liquid to submerge the ingredients by at least an inch.
- 5
Bring the mixture to a boil on the stove, then cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and transfer it to the oven.
- 6
Cook in the oven for about 12 hours, until the meat is tender and the flavors meld together beautifully.
- 7
Once done, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh parsley.
