Indulge in the warm, fragrant embrace of Halwa, a traditional Indian dessert made with semolina, ghee, and a hint of cardamom. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy weeknight treat, it’s a sweet hug for your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 teaspoon rose water

Method

  1. 1

In a large pan, heat the ghee over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add semolina to the ghee and roast it, stirring continuously until it turns a golden brown color.

  3. 3

In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and then add sugar, stirring until dissolved.

  4. 4

Once the semolina is roasted, slowly pour the sugar-water mixture into the pan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

  5. 5

Add cardamom powder and mix well. Cook until the halwa thickens and releases from the sides of the pan.

  6. 6

Stir in chopped nuts and rose water, if using.

  7. 7

Transfer the halwa to a greased plate, flatten it, and let it cool slightly before cutting into squares.

  8. 8

Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
