Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Halua, a delightful Indian sweet made from semolina, ghee, and aromatic cardamom. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy dessert after dinner.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup semolina
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup ghee or oil
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
Method
- 1
In a pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat until hot.
- 2
Add the semolina to the pan and roast it, stirring continuously, until it turns golden brown and gives a nutty aroma.
- 3
In a separate pot, bring the water to a boil and then add the sugar, stirring until dissolved.
- 4
Slowly pour the sugar-water mixture into the roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- 5
Add the cardamom powder and continue stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
- 6
Once thick, remove from heat and let it cool slightly before transferring to a serving dish.
- 7
Garnish with raisins and chopped nuts if desired, then slice and serve warm.
