Indulge in the melt-in-your-mouth goodness of Ghorayeba, a traditional Middle Eastern shortbread cookie infused with rich ghee and sweetened with powdered sugar. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ghee
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup blanched almonds

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, cream the ghee and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.

  3. 3

Gradually add the sifted flour and cornstarch to the mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  4. 4

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

Scoop small portions of the dough and shape them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.

  6. 6

Gently press an almond on top of each dough ball.

  7. 7

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Enjoy your Ghorayeba with tea or coffee.
