Indulge in these delightful fruit scones, bursting with sweet dried fruits and a buttery, flaky texture. Perfect for a cozy brunch or an afternoon tea treat that will warm your heart and home.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup dried fruit mix
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp milk
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. Stir in the sugar.
- 3
Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and rub it in with your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Fold in the dried fruit mix until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- 5
Make a well in the center, pour in the milk, and mix gently until just combined. Do not overwork the dough.
- 6
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter to shape scones.
- 7
Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. Beat the egg with the tablespoon of milk and brush it over the tops of the scones.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
