Indulge in these crispy fried pies filled with savory beef mince, tender potatoes, and a hint of sweetness from chutney. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a delightful snack at gatherings.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1500 ml Snowflake white bread flour or cake flour
- 5 ml baking powder
- 7 ml salt
- 250 g margarine
- 2 eggs
- 250 ml milk to mix
- 60 ml oil
- 500 g lean beef mince
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, skinned and chopped
- 3 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 10 ml sugar
- 100 ml chutney
Method

Rub margarine into dry ingredients.

Beat the eggs. Add to the dry ingredients with a little milk to mix into a soft pliable dough. Take care not to add too much milk which will result in a sticky dough.

Roll out and cut into circles using a saucer.

Spoon the filling in the centre of the circle. Fold over and seal with milk.

Press edges with a fork.

Fry in hot oil on both sides.

Heat oil in a large frying pan.

Brown the mince. Remove and set aside.

Brown the onions. Return meat to pan.

Add the skinned tomatoes, diced potatoes, sugar and chutney. Simmer until potatoes are tender.

Season to taste. A little curry can also be added.
Notes
Use any filling: Chicken, mince, chicken livers, vegetables or steak and kidney.
