Indulge in a classic Swiss fondue, where rich Gruyère and Emmental cheeses melt together with a splash of white wine and a hint of garlic. Perfect for cozy gatherings or a fun weeknight dinner with friends, served with crusty French bread.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 200 g Gruyère cheese
- 200 g Emmental cheese
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- to taste pinch nutmeg
- 1 bag French bread
Method
- 1
Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the halved garlic clove for flavor.
- 2
Pour the dry white wine into the pot and heat over medium heat until warm.
- 3
Gradually add the shredded Gruyère and Emmental cheese to the pot, stirring continuously until melted and smooth.
- 4
In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with lemon juice and a few tablespoons of the melted cheese mixture to create a slurry. Stir this back into the pot to thicken.
- 5
Season the mixture with freshly grated nutmeg and stir well to combine.
- 6
Keep the fondue warm over a low flame, and serve immediately with cubes of French bread for dipping.
- 7
Enjoy dipping the bread into the melted cheese with friends or family, allowing the bread to soak up the cheesy goodness.
