Indulge in a delightful Flammkuchen, a crispy German flatbread topped with creamy crème fraîche, savory bacon lardons, and sweet onions. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with friends.

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 125 ml water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 200 g crème fraîche
  • 150 g thinly sliced onions
  • 150 g bacon lardons
  • salt to taste salt
  • pepper to taste pepper

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).

  2. 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, water, olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Mix until a smooth dough forms.

  3. 3

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to form a thin rectangle about 0.5 cm thick.

  4. 4

Spread a generous layer of crème fraîche over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  5. 5

Evenly distribute the sliced onions and bacon lardons on top of the crème fraîche.

  6. 6

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  7. 7

Transfer the Flammkuchen to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven, slice, and serve hot.
