Indulge in Faschingskrapfen, a delightful Austrian treat filled with sweet raspberry jam and dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect for celebrating Carnival or enjoying a cozy afternoon with coffee.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 ml milk
- 75 g butter
- 75 g sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup raspberry jam
- for frying vegetable oil
- powdered sugar for dusting
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar (reserve a tablespoon), and instant yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Add melted butter, beaten egg, and sifted flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 10 minutes.
- 4
Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick and cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
- 5
Place a teaspoon of raspberry jam in the center of half of the circles. Top with remaining circles and seal the edges.
- 6
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F) and fry the Krapfen in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- 7
Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
