Savor the rich, spiced flavors of homemade Döner, featuring tender lamb or beef marinated in garlic and cumin, served in warm pita with fresh veggies. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner that transports you to the streets of Turkey.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg lamb shoulder or beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 pieces pita bread
  • 1 cup fresh vegetables

Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine sliced meat, olive oil, yogurt, minced garlic, cumin, and paprika. Mix well to coat the meat. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor.

  2. 2

Preheat your grill or oven to a high temperature (about 200°C / 400°F).

  3. 3

Once marinated, thread the meat onto skewers or arrange in a single layer on a baking tray.

  4. 4

Grill or bake the meat for about 60-90 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and slightly charred.

  5. 5

Once done, remove the meat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly.

  6. 6

Serve the sliced döner on warm pita bread, topped with fresh vegetables like lettuce, tomato, and onion.

  7. 7

Enjoy your homemade Döner Kebap with a side of yogurt or spicy sauce if desired.
