Savor the robust flavors of Divočák, a traditional Eastern European dish featuring tender wild boar simmered with earthy mushrooms and aromatic juniper berries. Ideal for a cozy weekend dinner with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg wild boar meat
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 pieces onions
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 cups mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon juniper berries
- to taste salt and pepper
Method
- 1
Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- 2
Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sauté until translucent.
- 3
Increase the heat to high and add the wild boar meat. Brown the meat on all sides.
- 4
Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- 5
Add the sliced mushrooms and crushed juniper berries. Season with salt and pepper.
- 6
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is tender.
- 7
Stir occasionally, and add a little water if necessary to prevent sticking.
- 8
Serve hot, ideally with bread or dumplings to soak up the sauce.
