Indulge in the sweet and fragrant delight of Chomchom, a traditional Bengali dessert made with flour, chana dal, and aromatic rose water. Perfect for festive occasions or a special treat to share with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon rose water
- 1 tablespoon ghee
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water to form a smooth dough.
- 2
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15 minutes.
- 3
In another bowl, combine the soaked and ground chana dal with cardamom powder and rose water. Mix well to form a smooth paste.
- 4
Divide the dough into small balls. Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of the chana dal filling in the center. Fold the dough over the filling and seal it tightly.
- 5
Heat ghee in a pan over medium heat. Fry the dumplings until they are golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
In a separate pot, combine sugar and water to make a syrup. Bring it to a boil until the sugar dissolves completely.
- 7
Add the fried dumplings into the boiling syrup and let them cook for about 5-10 minutes, allowing them to absorb the syrup.
- 8
Remove the dumplings from the syrup and let them cool slightly before serving.
