Indulge in the delightful crunch of Chin Chin, a West African treat made with buttery dough and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for snacking or sharing at gatherings, these sweet bites will brighten any occasion.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 cups vegetable oil
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the sifted flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- 2
Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract (if using). Mix until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3
Gradually add water, a little at a time, mixing until a firm dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
- 4
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into small squares or desired shapes.
- 5
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the cut dough pieces in batches.
- 6
Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Allow to cool slightly before serving or storing in an airtight container.
