Indulge in the delightful flavors of Char Siu Bao, soft steamed buns filled with savory Chinese BBQ pork, hoisin, and soy sauce. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with friends and family.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 8 ounces Char Siu (Chinese BBQ pork)
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
Method
- 1
In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the flour along with the vegetable oil.
- 3
Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- 4
Meanwhile, mix the diced Char Siu, hoisin sauce, and soy sauce in a bowl to make the filling.
- 5
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle.
- 6
Place a spoonful of the Char Siu filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges and pinch to seal.
- 7
Place the buns on a parchment-lined steamer tray. Steam over boiling water for 15 minutes until fluffy.
- 8
Remove from the steamer and serve warm. Enjoy your homemade Char Siu Bao!
